What's included
What's included
- Bamboo board — with a recessed well for the butter and a channel alongside that holds the spreader.
- Ceramic dome — white, tapered, lifts straight off. Opaque rather than clear, so what is under it stays out of the light.
- Spreader — stainless blade with a white ceramic handle, matching the dome.
Materials and care
Materials and care
Material. Bamboo board, glazed ceramic dome, stainless spreader with a ceramic handle. The board is the wooden part; the dome is ceramic.
What the dome does. It is a lift-off cover rather than a seal. Being opaque, it keeps light off the butter as well as air, which matters more than people expect — light is what turns butter at the surface.
Care. Wash the ceramic dome and the spreader by hand. Wipe the bamboo board with a damp cloth and dry it; never soak bamboo or put it in a dishwasher.

A covered board for the table.
A well and a channel, cut into bamboo.
The board carries a recessed well that a block sits down into rather than skating across, and a shaped channel beside it that the spreader drops into. Two cuts, and between them they solve the two things wrong with a flat plate and a knife: the butter moves and the knife goes missing.
- Recessed butter well
- Channel holds the spreader
- Bamboo board
Ceramic, not glass, which keeps the light out.
A clear dome shows the butter off; an opaque one protects it. Light is what turns the surface of butter yellow and waxy, so a white ceramic cover does a job a glass one cannot — and against a bamboo board it looks like a piece of tableware rather than a lid.
- Opaque, keeps light off
- Lifts straight off
- Glazed white ceramic
Matched to the dome, and kept with the board.
Stainless blade, white ceramic handle, sitting in its own channel so the set stays a set. It is a spreader rather than a knife — a blunt, flexible edge that pushes cold butter across toast without tearing it, which a table knife does badly.
- Ceramic handle, steel blade
- Made for spreading, not cutting
- Stores in the board
Questions
Frequently asked about this set
Is the dish wooden or ceramic?
Both, and it is worth being clear. The board is bamboo, with the well and the knife channel cut into it. The dome that covers the butter is white glazed ceramic. The spreader has a ceramic handle and a stainless blade.
Does the dome seal?
No — it lifts off and rests down, keeping air, dust and light off. If you want butter genuinely sealed for the fridge, our ceramic butter dish has a silicone gasket in its lid.
Why an opaque dome rather than glass?
Light turns the surface of butter. A clear dome looks good and lets the light in; a ceramic one keeps it out. Which you prefer depends on whether the dish lives on a bright table or you care more about the butter.
What size butter fits?
The well is a recess shaped for a block rather than a long stick. If you buy US sticks rather than European blocks, measure before ordering — a stick is longer and much narrower than the well is cut for.
Is a knife included?
Yes — a spreader with a white ceramic handle, which sits in a channel in the board rather than in a drawer.
Can any of it go in the dishwasher?
Wash the ceramic dome and the spreader by hand, and wipe the bamboo board with a damp cloth. Bamboo should never be soaked or machine-washed.
Can I use it for anything else?
Yes. A covered board suits a wedge of cheese or a pastry just as well — the well simply gives whatever is on it somewhere to sit.
What if I'm not satisfied?
Thirty days to change your mind, no hassle. If it is not right we will put it right.
Quality has a cost. Middlemen shouldn't.
Real customers. Real breakfast tables.
The opaque dome was the reason I picked this one. Butter does not go waxy on top any more.
Spreader has its own groove so it never wanders off.
Bamboo board and white ceramic together look far more expensive than this was.
The well stops the block sliding when you push a knife into it.
Use it for cheese as much as butter. Works for both.
Ceramic dome has a nice weight. Does not feel flimsy.
Wipes clean, no fuss. The whole thing takes seconds.
Sits on the table permanently and nobody minds, which says it all.
Bought it as a gift and ended up keeping it.
