Teak Wooden Utensil Set - Urban Jiko
Our roots

Frustrated by plastic, and by shelves full of the same thing.

Urban Jiko began with a simple frustration: kitchen tools had become disposable. Thin plastic that softens against a hot pan. Big-box sets designed to be replaced rather than kept.

We wanted the opposite — solid natural materials, made properly, priced so that choosing them isn't a luxury decision. Every piece we carry is chosen the same way: quality materials first, low-impact practices, and sourcing we can trace back through workshops we know.

  • Solid teak, acacia and walnut — never composite
  • Food-safe linseed oil, never lacquer or shellac
  • Minimal packaging, no plastic filler
  • Responsibly sourced, with documented origin
What makes us different

Four things we will not compromise on.

  • Timeless, natural design

No gimmicks and no trend-chasing. Wood, glass, ceramic and steel, in shapes that will still look right in ten years.

  • Sustainability first

Natural materials, food-safe finishes and minimal packaging — sourced responsibly, with origin we can document.

  • Fair pricing

Premium materials without the luxury markup. We buy direct from the workshop and sell direct to you.

  • Food and community

We are home cooks first. Care guides, honest answers and the occasional recipe come with everything we sell.

Fair pricing

Premium materials, without the premium markup.

Most kitchenware passes through several hands before it reaches yours, and every one of them takes a margin. We buy direct from the workshops that make our pieces and ship direct to you.

Same hardwood, fewer hands. That difference shows up in the price rather than in what you hold.

  • Direct from the workshop
  • Free shipping over $60
  • 30-day guarantee
The range

Three rooms, one standard.

We started in the kitchen. The same rules — natural materials, honest design, fair pricing — now shape everything we carry.

  1. Teak Wooden Utensil Set - Urban Jiko
    Kitchen

The tools you reach for every single day.

Where we started, and still where most of our work goes. Solid teak, acacia and walnut, finished in food-safe oil — utensils, boards and storage that hold their shape at cooking heat and stay gentle on every pan you own.

  2. Wooden Mushroom Light - Urban Jiko
    Lighting

    Warm light, quietly designed.

The same eye applied to the rest of the home. Pendants, chandeliers and lamps chosen for the quality of the light they throw and the way they sit in a room — not for how loudly they announce themselves.

  3. Stonehaven Travertine Candleholders - Urban Jiko
    Home & Living

The pieces that make a room feel finished.

Boards, trays, candleholders and table linens in the same natural materials. The things that carry food to the table, and stay out on it afterwards.

Questions

About us, answered plainly.

What materials do you work with?

Solid teak, acacia and walnut for our wooden pieces, finished with food-safe linseed oil — no synthetic seal, no lacquer and no plastic coating. Elsewhere in the range you will find glass, ceramic, stone and stainless steel, chosen on the same terms.

Where do you ship, and how quickly?

We ship worldwide, and shipping is free on orders over $60. Orders are on their way within 24–48 hours of being placed.

What if I change my mind?

You have 30 days. Get in touch and we will sort it out — no fuss and no interrogation.

How do I care for wooden pieces?

Hand wash in warm water with mild soap, then dry standing up rather than flat. Every few months, a coat of food-grade oil keeps the grain rich and the colour deep.

How do I reach a real person?

Use the contact page and a member of our team will answer. We read everything that comes in.
