What you get
What you get
One pair of spring tongs with polished stainless arms and broad wooden paddle jaws.
- Dark — black walnut jaws.
- Light — olivewood jaws.
The option is labelled Dark and Light in the picker; those are the two timbers.
The latch
The latch
The wooden tab at the end pivots down over both arms and is held shut by an inset magnet. That keeps them closed in a drawer instead of springing open and catching on everything, and the same tab carries a hole so they can hang from a rail.
It is a magnetic catch rather than a push-button lock — a flick of the thumb either way.
Materials and care
Materials and care
Material. Stainless steel arms with wooden paddle jaws seated into steel ferrules.
Care. Hand wash and dry — never soak them and never put them in a dishwasher, because the jaws are solid wood set into metal. A wipe of food-grade mineral oil when the wood looks dry keeps the grain fed.
Heat. No temperature rating is published for these, so we would use them for serving, turning on a griddle and lifting things off a board rather than reaching into live flame.

Tongs that stay shut and won't mark a pan.
A magnet in the tab, and a hole to hang it.
The wooden end tab pivots down across both arms and a small inset magnet holds it there, so they stay shut in a drawer rather than springing open and snagging on everything else. The same tab is drilled, so they hang off a rail instead. Neither the magnet nor the hanging hole was mentioned anywhere on the old listing, and between them they are why these are pleasant to own.
- Inset magnet holds them shut
- Drilled to hang
- Flick open with a thumb
Wood where they meet the food.
Broad wooden paddles rather than serrated steel tips. They will not scratch a non-stick pan or a griddle plate the way metal tongs do, they will not conduct heat up into your fingers, and they lift a slice of pizza or a piece of fish flat instead of pinching a hole in it. The trade is grip: smooth wood is gentler and less grabby than steel teeth, so these are for serving and turning rather than wrestling a steak.
- Broad wooden paddles
- Will not mark a pan
- Lifts flat, does not pinch
Black walnut or olivewood.
Dark is black walnut — deep chocolate brown, close-grained. Light is olivewood, pale gold with the wild figuring olive is known for, so no two pairs look alike. Same tongs, same steel, same price; pick on which sits better with your boards.
- Walnut or olivewood
- Same tongs either way
- Olive figuring differs on every pair
Questions
Frequently asked about these tongs
Which wood do I get?
Whichever you pick. Dark is black walnut and Light is olivewood — the picker labels them by tone rather than by timber, which is why it is worth saying here.
Do they lock closed?
Yes, with a magnet. The wooden tab at the end pivots over both arms and an inset magnet holds it there, so they stay shut in a drawer. Flick it back with a thumb to open them.
Can I use them on a barbecue?
For serving and turning, yes. No heat rating is published for them, so we would not have them sitting over live flame or reaching deep into a fire — the jaws are solid wood. For that, use long metal tongs.
Will they scratch my pans?
No — the jaws are wood, which cannot mark a non-stick coating, a griddle plate or an enamel surface the way steel tongs do.
Do they grip well?
They lift flat and gently, which suits pizza, fish, bread, vegetables and anything you do not want pinched. Smooth wooden paddles are less grabby than serrated steel, so for wrestling a heavy steak, metal tongs are the better tool.
Can they go in the dishwasher?
No. Hand wash and dry — the jaws are solid wood set into steel, and soaking or machine washing is what loosens that joint.
Do they need oiling?
A wipe of food-grade mineral oil when the wood looks dry, once or twice a year. Olivewood in particular comes up beautifully with it.
What if I'm not satisfied?
Thirty days to change your mind, no hassle. If it is not right we will put it right.
Quality has a cost. Middlemen shouldn't.
Real customers. Real tables.
The magnetic tab is the detail. They stay shut in the drawer instead of grabbing everything.
Olivewood figuring on mine is beautiful and completely unique.
Lift a pizza slice flat without folding it. That is what I bought them for.
No scratches on my griddle plate, unlike the metal pair before.
Hang off the rail by the tab. Neat solution.
Walnut is properly dark, not stained pine.
Good spring tension. Not floppy.
Oiled them once and the grain came right up.
Used for serving salad as much as anything off the grill.
