Size and where it fits

One size, on every finish and every design. The manufacturer's spec card gives it as D8 × H50cm — 50cm along the bar, 8cm across it.

  • Length. 50cm (about 19.7in), which is roughly the height of a bedside lamp and about half the width of a standard door.
  • Width. 8cm (about 3.1in). The spec card writes it as a diameter; the photographs show a flat bar, so read it as how much wall it covers across.
  • Projection. How far it stands out from the wall is not published, and we would rather say so than guess. If you are fitting it in a corridor or beside a door swing, measure the gap you have and ask us before you order.
  • Room size. The manufacturer suggests it for rooms of 5–10m² as a light in its own right. In anything larger, treat it as accent light alongside a ceiling fitting.
  • What arrives. Left or Right is one fixture. Left & Right is two, mirrored, with fixing hardware and instructions in the box.

Materials, wiring and care

Build. The close-up photograph shows a slim rigid bar with a painted or anodised finish, set against a frosted diffuser channel, both carried on one small rectangular block that meets the wall. The manufacturer does not state which metal or which plastic, so we are not going to name them for it — what you can see is a flat metal bar and a frosted lens, not a glass shade or an exposed lamp.

Wiring. This is a hardwired fixture. There is no plug, no cord and no switch anywhere on it in any of the manufacturer's photographs, and none is listed in the box — it takes a mains feed at the mounting point and is switched from the wall. The spec card lists the light source at 16W. If there is no feed where you want it, that is an electrician's job before the fixture goes up; in the UK, Ireland, Australia and much of the EU, connecting a new mains point is work you are required to have done by a qualified person, so check your local rules first.

The LED. The light comes from LEDs built into the bar. There is no lamp holder and no bulb to source, match or replace, which is also why the white you pick at checkout is the white it stays.

Where it goes. The listing is tagged for indoor use and publishes no IP rating, so treat it as a dry indoor fitting — hallways, stairwells, bedrooms, living rooms. For a porch, a garden wall or a bathroom zone, buy something rated for it.

Care. Switch it off at the wall, let it cool, and take a dry microfibre cloth along the bar and the diffuser. Dust is the only thing that ever really gathers on a fitting like this, and it comes off in one pass.

Modern LED Wall Light - Urban Jiko
The fixture

Two bars, one of them lit.

Close up, the whole design is two straight lengths held slightly apart: a solid bar in the finish you choose, and beside it a frosted channel that carries the light. They are offset rather than aligned, so one runs high and the other runs low, and a single small block behind them is all that touches the wall. That offset is the only decoration on the fitting — there is no shade, no visible diode, no fixing plate on show.

  • Frosted channel, no diodes on show
  • One small block against the wall
  • Offset mirrored left or right
Before you choose a wall

A wall light is a fitting first, and a decision second.

Read this first

It wires into the wall. There is no plug.

This is the question worth settling before anything else, so here it is plainly: no cord, no plug, no switch on the fitting. It takes a mains feed at the mounting point and is controlled from a wall switch, the same as a ceiling light. Fixing hardware and instructions come in the box. If there is already a feed where you want it — an old sconce position, a spur beside the bed — this is a straightforward swap. If there isn't, running one is an electrician's job, and in the UK, Ireland, Australia and much of the EU it is legally required to be. Worth a five-minute look behind the plan before you choose a wall.

  • Hardwired to a mains feed
  • No plug, cord or inline switch
  • Fixings and instructions in the box

Which way up

Vertical beside a door, horizontal above a bed.

The bar has no obvious top or bottom, and the manufacturer photographs it both ways — standing upright in a stairwell and lying flat across a headboard wall. That is genuinely useful when you are working around a room rather than a blank wall: 50cm reads as a tall narrow line beside a doorway, and as a long low one above a bed or a sofa. The mounting block sits at the middle of the run either way.

  • Photographed vertical and horizontal
  • 50cm along its length
  • One central mounting block

The light

A line of light, not a row of dots.

The frosted channel is what does the work. Instead of picking out individual diodes, it spreads them into one continuous run, and because the bar stands proud of the wall the glow carries both up and down rather than firing straight at you. The manufacturer rates it for rooms of 5 to 10 square metres as a light in its own right; in a bigger room it is the layer you leave on when the ceiling light goes off.

  • Frosted diffuser, lit end to end
  • Washes the wall up and down
  • Listed by the maker at 16W

Two finishes

Matte black, or gold-tone.

Black draws the line hard: against a pale wall it reads as a deliberate graphic mark even in daylight, unlit. Gold-tone is the quieter of the two, closer to the wall in tone and warmer once it is on. The manufacturer names the finishes and nothing further — it does not say what the gold is or how it is applied — so judge it from the photographs rather than from a word like brass. Size and the stated 16W are identical across both.

  • Matte black or gold-tone
  • Finish material not stated by the maker
  • Same size and stated wattage in both

Choose once

The white is chosen at the checkout.

Cool, Natural or Warm, picked as an option before you order. Nothing in the listing or the photographs points to a remote, an app or a colour switch on the fitting, so treat the choice as the one you live with — and if you are matching downlights or a lamp already in the room, take a moment to check which of the three you are looking at. Every lifestyle photograph on this page is the Warm White. Buy the pair and both arrive in the same white.

  • Cool, Natural or Warm white
  • No remote or dimmer listed
  • Warm white is what the photos show
The three designs

One shape, three ways to hang it.

Every version is the same 50cm bar at the same stated 16W. What changes is which side runs high — and whether you are buying one fixture or two.

  • Modern LED Wall Light - Urban Jiko

Left — high on the left

One fixture. The long bar runs high on the left and drops away to the right. The one to pick for a wall you approach from the left.

  • Modern LED Wall Light - Urban Jiko

Right — high on the right

One fixture. The mirror of the Left: the long bar runs high on the right. Same size, same stated output, opposite lean.

  • Modern LED Wall Light - Urban Jiko

Left & Right — the pair

Two fixtures. One of each, mirrored, for either side of a bed, a mirror or a fireplace. Two mounting points and two feeds needed.

Questions

Frequently asked about this light

Is it hardwired, or does it plug in?

Hardwired. There is no plug and no cord on it in any of the manufacturer's photographs, and none is listed in the box — it connects to a mains feed at the mounting point and is switched from the wall.

Do I need an electrician?

If there is already a live feed where you want it — an existing sconce position, for instance — some people are comfortable making the connection themselves. Running a new feed is a different job, and in the UK, Ireland, Australia and much of the EU it is work you are required to have done by a qualified electrician. Check what applies where you live before you order, not after.

Can I use it outside, or in a bathroom?

No — this one is for dry indoor walls. The listing is tagged for indoor use and no IP rating is published for it, and we are not going to imply one. For a porch, a garden wall or anywhere near a shower, buy a fitting that carries the rating for that zone.

Can I change the colour of the light later?

Choose it at the checkout. Cool White, Natural White and Warm White are sold as separate options, and nothing in the listing or the photographs shows a remote, an app or a switch for changing it once it is fitted. If you are matching lights already in the room, decide which of the three you are matching first.

Is there a bulb in it?

No bulb and no lamp holder — the LEDs are built into the bar behind the frosted channel. That is why the line of light is continuous rather than a row of bright points, and why there is nothing to source or match when you fit it.

What exactly does "Left & Right" get me?

Two fixtures, one of each design, mirrored. Left on its own and Right on its own are a single fixture each. Worth saying because the pair needs two mounting points and two feeds, not one.

How far does it stand off the wall?

The manufacturer does not publish a projection figure, and rather than round one up from a photograph we will say so. Length and width are given as 50cm by 8cm. If you are fitting it in a corridor, beside a door swing or anywhere a few centimetres matter, message us with the gap you have and we will get the number from the supplier before you commit.

Will it work on a dimmer?

Nothing in the listing says it is dimmable, so plan the circuit as a plain switched one. Integrated LED fittings need a driver made for dimming and a compatible dimmer, and that is a pairing to confirm with your electrician rather than assume — ask us and we will check with the supplier first.

What if I'm not satisfied?

Thirty days to change your mind, no hassle. If it is not right we will put it right.

Reviews

Real customers. Real walls.

There was already a feed where the old sconce had been, so the electrician had both of them up inside an hour.

Dominic R.Verified buyer

Bought the pair for either side of the bed. Mirrored properly, which I half expected them not to be.

Saoirse B.Cork, IE

Warm white was the right call. It reads as lamplight rather than office light, which is what I wanted in a hallway.

Priya N.Verified buyer

Mounted mine horizontally over the sofa instead of upright. Same fitting, completely different room.

Lukas W.Berlin, DE

The black one still looks like something in the daytime, switched off. That mattered more than I thought it would.

Erin T.Verified buyer

Gold-tone against a grey wall. Warmer than the photos suggest once it is actually on.

Adaeze O.Manchester, UK

Light goes up the wall and down it, so the stairwell is lit without anything glaring at you on the way past.

Marc D.Lyon, FR

Fifty centimetres is bigger on the wall than it sounds on paper. Measured first, glad I did.

Nadia F.Verified buyer

No bulb to think about is the quiet luxury here. It went on the wall and that was the end of the project.
