What it is

A one-litre glass carafe with a brushed steel collar and pouring lid, for water, iced tea, juice, cordial or a jug of something with fruit in it.

It is a serving jug, not a kettle. The handle this product is listed under says "cold water kettle", which is a translation artefact. It does not heat anything and should not be put on a hob. Fill it from the tap or the fridge and put it on the table.

Materials and care

Material. Clear glass with a brushed stainless steel collar and lid.

Temperature. Cold and room-temperature drinks are what this is for. We are not making a claim about boiling water in it, because nothing on the supplier's specification states the glass type — so if you want a jug for hot brewing, our borosilicate teapot is the one that is specified for it.

Care. Wash by hand with warm soapy water and dry the steel collar so it does not water-mark. The wide body takes a hand and a sponge easily.

Why this jug

A litre of water, worth putting out.

Cascade Glass Pitcher - Urban Jiko
The lid

Steel, with a spout cut into it.

The brushed steel collar screws down and carries the pour, so water comes out in a controlled stream instead of glugging over the lip the way an open jug does. It also keeps whatever is in it covered on a table — which matters more outdoors than most people think about until they are picking things out of the water.

  • Controlled pour, no glugging
  • Brushed stainless collar
  • Keeps it covered

The size

A litre, which is a table's worth.

Big enough that a table of four is not passing it back and forth every two minutes, small enough that it fits in a fridge door shelf and that someone can lift it full with one hand. That is the size a serving jug wants to be, and a lot of them get it wrong in one direction or the other.

  • One litre
  • Fits a fridge shelf
  • Serves a table of four

On the table

Clear glass, so water looks like something.

A jug of water with lemon and ice in it, in clear glass, is the cheapest way to make a laid table look considered. Put cordial, iced tea or anything with fruit floating in it in there and the same thing happens. Plastic jugs do not do this and never will.

  • Clear glass throughout
  • Shows what's in it
  • Water, iced tea, cordial

Questions

Frequently asked about this carafe

Is it a kettle?

No. The URL this product sits at says "cold water kettle", which is a translation artefact from the supplier — it is a serving carafe for cold and room-temperature drinks. It does not heat anything and must not go on a hob.

Can I put boiling water in it?

We are not claiming that, because the glass type is not specified anywhere on the supplier's sheet and we will not guess about thermal shock. For hot brewing, our teapot is specified as borosilicate and is the right tool.

How much does it hold?

One litre — enough for a table of four without constant refilling, and small enough to fit a fridge shelf.

Does the lid come off?

Yes, the steel collar unscrews for filling and washing. The pour happens through the lid, which is what keeps it from glugging.

Can it go in the dishwasher?

Hand wash is what we would do, and dry the steel collar so it does not water-mark. The body is wide enough to get a hand and a sponge inside easily.

Is it good for iced tea?

Very — that and cordial or water with fruit in it are what a clear glass carafe is for. Brew your tea in the teapot, let it cool, and pour it into this.

Will it drip when I pour?

The spout is cut into the steel lid to give a controlled stream rather than a lip pour, which is the main thing that makes glass jugs drip.

What if I'm not satisfied?

Thirty days to change your mind, no hassle. If it is not right we will put it right.
