What the dome does. It is a lift-off cover, not a seal — it keeps dust and air off butter on a table and lets you see what is under it. If you want butter genuinely sealed for the fridge, our gasketed ceramic dish is the one for that.
Care. Wipe the acacia with a damp cloth and dry it — no soaking, no dishwasher. The glass dome washes by hand. A wipe of food-grade mineral oil when the wood looks dry keeps the grain fed.

Butter under glass on a wooden board is a thing you put on a table on purpose, which is not true of most butter dishes. Warm acacia, a clear dome and a knife already lying in its channel — it does the work of a small centrepiece at breakfast and it costs nothing extra to look like that.

The board is not flat. There is a recessed well that stops a block sliding about, and a shaped channel alongside it that the knife sits in so it is never hunting around on the tablecloth. Twenty centimetres by seventeen and a half, which is enough to carry the whole thing in one hand.

Ten centimetres of clear glass, straight up and off — no hinge, no catch, nothing to fiddle with while holding toast. It keeps the air and the dust off, and because it is glass you can see whether you need to get more butter out without lifting anything at all.
