Material. Stainless steel body with a bamboo lid, held on by a removable elastic strap.
The closure. The lid sits into the rim and the strap holds it there. It is a cover rather than a gasketed seal, so pack it upright and keep anything really liquid — soup, a loose dressing — for our snap-seal containers, which clip and gasket properly.
Care. The steel body washes normally. Wash the bamboo lid by hand and dry it — never soak it or put it in a dishwasher.
Not for the microwave. Steel never goes in one. Tip lunch onto a plate to reheat it.

It's a board as well as a lid.
The bamboo lid comes off and lies flat, which makes it a small cutting surface and a plate. Slice an apple on it at a desk, put your bread on it, use it as the thing you eat off so the box stays clean. It is the most useful part of this lunchbox and the old description never mentioned it once.

Steel is non-porous, so there is nowhere for a tomato sauce to stain or for last week's garlic to settle in. A plastic box carries every lunch it has ever held; this one washes back to plain steel every time, which is the whole reason to buy metal.

That is a cover, not a clipped and gasketed seal — it travels well upright with a sandwich, salad or rice in it, and we would not send soup to work in it. If leakproof is what you need, our snap-seal steel containers clip down onto a silicone gasket and do that job properly.

Is it leakproof?
No — and we would rather say so. The bamboo lid seats into the rim and an elastic strap holds it there. That travels perfectly well upright with a sandwich, salad, rice or leftovers. For soup or a loose dressing, our snap-seal steel containers clip onto a silicone gasket and are the right tool.
Can it go in the microwave?
No. It is steel, and steel never goes in a microwave. Tip lunch onto a plate to reheat it — or use the bamboo lid as the plate.

It is solid bamboo and lies flat, so it takes a knife for slicing an apple or cutting a sandwich in half. It is a lunch-sized surface rather than a chopping board — for real prep use a proper board.
How do I wash it?
The steel body washes however you like. Wash the bamboo lid by hand and dry it; never soak bamboo or put it in a dishwasher.
Will it stain from curry or tomato?
No. Steel is non-porous, so nothing soaks in and nothing carries over to the next lunch.
