The glaze. A reactive cobalt glaze, which is why the surface is mottled and cloudy rather than a flat block of colour — the effect develops in the kiln rather than being painted on. Depth of colour and the pattern of the mottling differ from piece to piece.
The rim. Left unglazed, so the bare clay reads as a thin bronze edge against the blue. It is meant to look like that.
Care. Hand wash and dry. Avoid dropping it into a sink of other crockery, and let it come to room temperature before it meets very hot or very cold — ordinary sense with any glazed ceramic.

Cobalt that pools instead of sitting flat.
This is a reactive glaze, which means the colour moves in the kiln rather than being applied evenly. It gathers dark in the well and thins towards the edges, and the mottling that results is different on every piece that comes out. A flat block of blue is a printed plate; this is what happens when the glaze is allowed to behave.

Why does the colour look different in each photograph?
Because it is a reactive glaze. The colour pools and mottles differently on every piece as it fires, so no two are identical and none will match a photograph exactly. That variation is what you are buying rather than a fault in it.

Yes. The rim is deliberately left bare so the raw clay frames the blue. It is the detail that stops the piece looking machine-made.
How do I wash it?
By hand, and dry it. Keep it out of a sink full of other crockery, and let it reach room temperature before it meets anything very hot or very cold.
Will it stain from turmeric or tomato?
The glazed surface is non-porous, so colour sits on it rather than soaking in and washes off with the rest. The bare clay rim is best kept out of anything strongly coloured, simply because it is unglazed.
What do people actually serve on it?
Whole fish and seafood are what the shape is built for, but it does just as much work with roasted vegetables, a rack of lamb, antipasti, cheese, or a line of dressed salad down the middle of a table.
